Write from facts rather than momentum
Pause long enough to remove accusations, assumptions, and details that belong to someone else. For a message about how to ask a roommate to do their share of chores, use this factual base: record the property, room, payment, repair, behavior, and relevant lease or household agreement.
Offer a proportionate next step
Match the size of the request to the relationship and to what the recipient can reasonably decide now. Ask for one remedy with reasonable access and timing, then document what was agreed. Make the immediate next step clear enough that the recipient can answer without reconstructing the entire history.
Protect privacy on both sides
Do not enter private space, withhold essential services, threaten eviction, or change locks without lawful authority. Use emergency, housing, tenant, health, or legal support for unsafe conditions, violence, or unlawful conduct. Use the most private legitimate channel available and do not share the exchange to recruit support or pressure.
