Show change, do not announce it
I have changed is a claim. Name the behavior that caused the rupture and the concrete action you have taken since, such as treatment, repayment, boundaries, or a sustained change in conduct.
Do not turn a few days of remorse into proof. If the change needs time, say that honestly rather than promising a finished transformation.
Ask for one small step
A second chance does not need to mean restoring the whole relationship. You can ask whether they would consider reading an update, exchanging one message, or speaking through a mediator.
Make no a complete answer. Do not attach a deadline or imply that refusing means they never cared.
- Own the behavior that ended trust.
- Name evidence of change.
- Ask for one bounded, optional step.
Check whether the request is safe and fair
Do not send where there is a legal no-contact restriction, an explicit permanent boundary, or a history that makes renewed contact unsafe. Personal growth does not create entitlement to access.
When ordinary contact is closed and asking is still lawful, one refusable request is the limit. If they decline or block, the work continues without them.
